The business revenue of Chinese information industry totaled 574.3 billion yuan (some 69 billion US dollars) in 2004, a year-on-year increase of 12 percent, said areport from the Ministry of Information Industry here Wednesday.

Revenue in the telecommunication sector stood at 520.5 billion yuan (some 63 billion US dollars) while that of the postal servicereached 53.8 billion yuan (6.5 billion US dollars) during the period, said the report.

According to the report, the number of Chinese Internet users reached 95 million in 2004. Among them, 25 million Chinese could access the Internet through a broadband connection.

The number of China's mobile phone users reached 334 million, said the report. A total of 214 billion short messages have been delivered and received during this period.
